Nancy, Mike, Jason, Martina, Charlie and Jack had another great day on the KK. The yellowtails bit well to start, they caught close to thirty and then it was on to the vermillon snapper spot. Once again the sharks took a few and that seemed to satisfied them, from then on Charlie and Jack were the button pushers and put close to twenty fat pink ones in the boat.
Fairly rough again today but everyone came through with their colors flying high.

7/27/2022 0 Comments Verms and TunaIt was blowing this morning and I wasn't sure that captain Dave was going to get Robert and his group out today but he did and they ended up with a great catch once again. The sharks backed off long enough for Dave to put 20 fat vermillons in the box and followed that up with a trip to the hump were they were able to beat the sharks, putting 10 blackfin tunas in the box along with a lonely mahi.
This is the first year in many years that I was able to go lobstering with my wife in the mini season and we did well enough to have friends over this evening for fresh grill lobster. 7/26/2022 0 Comments Remora ChallengeAfter the great day Dave had with the snappers on Sunday the sharks took over that spot yesterday and it was impossible to get a vermillon to the top before they got eaten. Dave was able to catch some yellowtail snapper and an almaco jack along with various other scallywags. Nate joined a select group of youngsters completing his remora challenge and being rewarded with red mark shaped like the sneaker sole (no animals were harmed in this challenge).
7/24/2022 0 Comments Really Big VermillonsDave found the big vermillon snapper today, something we haven't seen in a few months and he put up a beautiful rack of fish. The sharks are still at our good yellowtail spots but it seems that depending on how many boats are there with you, you may put together a decent catch if the sharks targets your neighbor's fish.
Dave caught a dozen yellowtail along with the verms, tried to do a few other things, caught one red snapper and that was his day. Chad and his group had a great time and are fishing tomorrow with other good captain out of whale. 7/24/2022 0 Comments Snapper Dayjack brought his two sons Jack and Nate along yesterday to catch some fish with us and although the mahi fishing was not good, the sharks backed off somewhat and allowed them to catch their limit of grey and yellowtail snapper.
7/24/2022 0 Comments Freight Guys and GirlsA bit rough on Friday for folks but they are freight handlers and a little wind doesn't slow them down. Mahi fishing was once again somewhat slow but they did catch a few along with a couple tunas. The sharks were brutal on the reef spots eating most of what was hooked up but they were able to catch a few toward the end of the day.
7/21/2022 0 Comments Jim' s GroupBig Al decided to stay behind so it was just Jim's group with us today. Started with the tunas which bit fairly well, we ended up with nine, from there we went of in search of the elusive mahi mahi and were rewarded with one keeper and a couple throw backs. Headed to the reef where the grey snapper bit somewhat and the yellowtails bit better, unfortunately the sharks are back and they won't let us catch any after a point.
Last day for these guys, we had a good time with them and hope to see them again sometime in the future. 7/19/2022 0 Comments Breathing FireJim Moran called me back in February to set up a few charters for him and his family. I had fished with Jim and his son numerous times on the Challenger and looked forward to doing so again on the KK. Jim has his sons and other extented family members down and we fished half days yesterday and today, introducing them to the fine art of yellowtail fishing as a starting place.
Big Al (previous owner of the Challenger) came along with Jim (long time friend) to keep the program on the right track and test some new lures he has acquired recently. Looking forward to the next couple days! 7/19/2022 0 Comments 1 For 2Dave kept Kathie and Steve busy last evening as they went 1 for 2 on the tarpon along with 7 or 8 sharks, a sting ray and a barracuda.
7/17/2022 0 Comments GAFA nice half day with Russ, his wife Lynn, Scott and his wife Connie. Caught our limit of snapper including a last minute mutton snapper that Scott wound up. No storms today but the wind is up a bit and the sharks are getting aggressive once again on the snapper spots .
7/16/2022 0 Comments Second Day With Jason and JacobGood thing that Morgan and Jenifer didn't go today because around 9 a,m the sky turned black and the wind picked up to 30-35 mph. We were anchored catching snapper but I know Jason's wife Jenifer would have had us headed home once that storm hit, as it was, we stayed, caught our limit of snapper and headed off shore once things had quieted down. Caught 7 mahi out 14 miles or so, one over 17 lbs and chased a few others around. Jason and his family said they would be back next year to do it all over again. Looking forward to It!
7/16/2022 0 Comments StruggledJeremy and his crew wanted mahi and captain Dave gave it his all but once again there were very few to be found yesterday. They finally decided something was better than nothing and Dave brought them back to the reef where they caught 30 snapper to cover dinner and then some.
7/14/2022 0 Comments More From TexasJason and his family fished with us back in 2018 and came back to fish a couple days with us this week. We caught our limit of mangrove snapper and then went offshore where we found a lot of small fish and a few legal mahi. Jason's group will be back on Saturday to do it all over again.
7/14/2022 0 Comments Bob-OBob-O is a local guy that has a really good friend who wanted to do something special for him so he paid for a full day charter on the KK. Captain Dave took him and some of his closest friends out and they had a good day offshore with the mahi.
7/11/2022 0 Comments The Old GuysCharlie brought a couple new faces on Saturday as our good long term friend Steve Stephens has had some medical issues that have did not allow him come to the keys on this trip. We wish him all the best, our prayers and thoughts are with him and we look forward to seeing him again before the year is out
7/11/2022 0 Comments KaiDave had to return to the dock to drop of mom and daughter but after that Dave was able to catch a few mahi and a bunch of snapper ending the day in good shape.
7/11/2022 0 Comments Short Day.Denise Chad, Olivia and Sophia caught a few and lost a few on their short day today.. Dinner got covered, the weather was great and a good time was had, it's not always about quantity
7/8/2022 0 Comments Learning DayDave took Steve, Renee and Terry today to catch some fish but they also wanted to learn some fishing techniques. Dave said they caught the bait well and moved on the the snapper fishing (which was halfway decent) and from there they tried the mahi (one), caught a couple skipjacks and fed the sharks some bottom fish they had hooked up. They learned some things but more importantly they had a good time.
7/7/2022 0 Comments The Last DayWe had Three very good days with Patricia and Dave but today was a little slow. The tails didn't want to cooperate, the mangroves did, we caught our limit (Dave wasn't with us) but after that we tried deep dropping and it just was not happening even in places I almost always get bites. The offshore mahi bite was slow again but tomorrow is another day and we will see what happens.
7/6/2022 0 Comments Dave's TurnI had to go to Miami so Captain Dave got to take Tricia, Dave, Sandy and Jay out for the day and once again put together a great catch of snapper. They limited out on the yellowtail, caught some jacks and a few red snapper (which they had to release), had a big kingfish on which they released a little early next to the boat and generally had a great time. Tomorrow is their last day and hopefully I can find try something new for them to experience that produces fish.
7/5/2022 0 Comments Another Good DayTrish and Dave were back today and they brought their friends Jay and Sandy with them for another day out on the water. Tried the hump for the tunas but the tunas were still not responding so we headed off to find the mahi and didn't have to go very far. A few miles out from the hump we found the birds and although it wasn't easy we were able to catch thirteen. Headed back to the reef around noon where the yellowtails cooperated to the extent that we ended up with over thirty of the snapper.
Dave is fishing with Trish tomorrow and then we have one more day with Trish and her group on Thursday. Looking forward to it. 7/4/2022 0 Comments Not Quite As GoodNot as easy today as I had it yesterday but Captain Dave put a decent catch together between the mahi and the Snapper. Had John , Kim, Scooter and the rest down once again and as always it was great seeing them
7/3/2022 0 Comments Finally Some Mahi We had a great day with the mahi today and I was glad we did because Patricia told me they have been trying to fish with us for a couple years but we were always booked, this was their first day and we got it off on the right foot.
We had Mitch in the pit today with Dave taking a well deserved day off. Most all the fish we caught were 13 to 14 miles off which was great as we didn't have to go very far. Patricia and a new group will be back Tuesday when we do it all over again. |
