3/29/2019 0 Comments Muttons BabyYesterday we couldn't catch a legal mutton, today we caught 5. Tom, Tom, Marty and Eric are here on a return trip from Ohio and we kept them busy once again. We limited out on our snapper. caught a blackfin tuna, a couple kingfish and a 35 lb jack crevalle as the last fish of the day. Awesome way to finish up. Same group tomorrow so probably try a some deep stuff if the wind cooperates.

3/28/2019 0 Comments Mike Is BackBrian, Ray and Mike drove all night to get here in time for the trip today. I had warned Mike that it was going to be very windy but he said they were coming anyway and it turn out he made the right choice. The current was with the wind and the yellowwtails bit well and the wind really didn't start blowing hard till after noon when it got really sloppy. Caught 9 or ten muttons after catching the tails but not one was legal and only one vermillon from the 5 or 6 spots we stopped on. No kings today but they tell us the wind will be down tomorrow, so we are looking forward to that.
3/27/2019 0 Comments Missed A Big OneWe caught our limit of tails again today, 5 kings, a mutton and then went trolling for a wahoo. Got the bite after about 30 minutes or so and he was dumping a 50 wide but then something went wrong and we lost the fish and the lure. Very disappointing for Dave and I but Richard and Simon were not at all bothered, they were just impressed by that screaming bite and they said their arms were tired anyway from all the other fish we caught. We'll just have to catch him tomorrow!
3/26/2019 0 Comments Another Great DayFrom our limit of yellowtail to our limit of kingfish, the day was full of catching fish. Rod and Carol's daughter Jen caught a 60 lb amberjack on 30 lb after an hour struggle and we went on to catch porgies and a margate just to top things off at the end of the day. While we had a little time left on the charter clock, Rod turned to me and said "we are worn out, let's head in". What more could you want on a beautiful day of fishing of Islamorada.
3/25/2019 0 Comments Real Short Day Camden, one of only two survivors after we sat down and started catching yellowtails, it was up to Cam to get his parents, brother and sisters home after they discovered there was only two in the family that had any sea legs. Cam and his sister Kennedy caught a few snapper before mom and dad decided to call it.Hope we can get them out on evening shark trip so Cam can get a chance to catch something big.
3/24/2019 0 Comments Made The Right MovesI gave Mike the option today of not going due to the heavy wind but there was no hesitation in his response and off we went. After bait we sat down for the YT and although the current was into the wind and it took a little time, we still caught close to our limit. The kingfish were biting out a little deeper and 20 minutes after starting with them a sail ate the rigger and we caught it. Caught 3 muttons, a blackfin tuna and the rest of our kings.
Emily hadn't moved since the yellowtailing so Mike decided we should come home a little early but I must say Emily never complained and was said she was just happy that Mike had a great time. Another good day on the KK! 3/23/2019 1 Comment Another Big YellowedgeCaught a 20 lb yellowedge grouper a few months ago at the same spot and this one was at least the same size. Craig and his friends are down from NY and caught a wide variety of fish today starting with the yellowtails, a black grouper followed by rose porgies, yelloweye snapper, the grouper, mutton snapper, and finally a kingfish. Really nice day to be on the water and we look forward to fishing with these guys again next December when sailfish season starts again.
3/22/2019 0 Comments Jeff, CP and JoeJeff fished with me many times in the past but I had not seen him in a couple years, he and his wife Paula run into Joe and CP at a bar last night and CP invites Jeff along on the charter today. Joe and CP discover quickly that Jeff has been on the KK many times but since he bought his own boat does not fish with us any more. It was a great reunion, we really enjoyed having Jeff with us (missed Paula though) and we had a great day on the water with plenty of fish. Thanks again CP and Joe, see you next month CP.
3/21/2019 0 Comments YellowTail SlamMarcey's two oldest sons Colby and Drew didn't have a lot of yellowtail snapper fishing experience but it wasn't long before they had it down pat. They killed over 40 in a few hours and i enjoyed watching them get better and more aggressive as the sharks showed up toward the end of our stay. After the YT we caught some kings, a legal mutton and 3 groupers that we released. Another great day and Marcey's planning a mahi trip for July. I'm looking forward to it!
3/20/2019 0 Comments Mr BullIt was not very pretty when we started today with the overcast skies and a light drizzle coming down from a line of storm clouds that were slowly moving off to the northeast. We got our bait and went on to the yellowtail spot and it was obvious at that time conditions were almost perfect for what I planned on doing. Our 6 folks from Minnesota and Atlanta got to experience some real good snapper fishing on their half day and we top it off catching this 150lb bull shark that had been eating some of our fish before we could get them in the boat. More great memories for theses folks to take home with them.
3/19/2019 0 Comments A Evening OutI felt good enough to do the evening trip with Debra and her family last evening. We changed the trip from today to yesterday because of the prediction of rain and wind today, it was a smart move.
This is Jamie helping Carter with her shark and I must say the ladies learned well. It was one shark after another through out the evening with good memories made by all. 3/19/2019 0 Comments Fighting Through ItEven with the very clean water and very little current we still managed to catch Kevin and his daughter and son plenty of snapper. I was struggling as I somehow pick up a cold virus and though I managed to get through the day had to depend on Dave to finish for me. Thanks Dave!
3/16/2019 0 Comments Another Big TunaStarted with the yellowtail snapper but we had to wait till the current picked up to really start catching. After the YT we had a decent bite of king fish, caught a legal mutton and Then the 25 lb tuna ate the ballyhoo on the rigger. Tim did a great job on the fish and we all will be eating fresh tuna over the next few days. Thanks Steve for setting this up with Tim, his son Jason and Jason's friends.
3/16/2019 0 Comments Evening Out,We fished with Marilyn and Mark last evening and although everyone caught sharks it was a little slower than it has been. Marliyn's kids were not excited about the trip at the beginning but as you can see once they got tied up with a 100 plus pound shark the smiles came out. Thanks guys see you next year
3/14/2019 0 Comments Another PinkieWe started with the yellowtails which once again bit well and we had what we needed in a couple hours. We left Davis Reef, headed up north but the weed was difficult at Conch Reef so we came back to an area I had caught nice kings at 2 days ago and in hour we had our 6 kings and a mutton snapper. The next fish was the big mutton and we caught some small sharks and another mutton a little later. Tim and Kim are from Michigan and will be back next year to do it again on the KK. Had a great time with them both of them and look forward to fishing with them again.
3/12/2019 0 Comments More of the SameAs beautiful as the day was it was just as nice in Whale Harbor Channel this evening. Wasn't sure whether the sharks knew about the time change but I didn't need to be concerned as they showed up in numbers right from the get go. By the end of the evening Tim was about done, Carrie had almost thrown in the towel several times after doing battle but hung in there to the end. Good people and good fun once again.
3/12/2019 0 Comments No CurrentEven without much current we put together a good catch of yellowtails and caught 8 kingfish for good measure. Jason had his two boys with him and his dad Joe to help with all the activity. This was another example of a family escaping the winter up north to spend a absolutely gorgeous day fishing off Islamorada.
3/11/2019 0 Comments More SnapperWe spent quite a bit of time sail fishing and we also tried to wahoo fish but the sargassum weed was just too prevalent to make it possible so after a few failed attempts we ended up back at the yellowtail spot where we caught our limit of snapper.
3/10/2019 0 Comments PinkieA 12 lb mutton for Chris and a smaller one for his son Henry added to a great catch of fat yellowtail snapper today. We sailfished for a good part of the day and had one up in our spread but he didn't want to eat and we had to settle for some great food fish.
3/9/2019 0 Comments They Are Starting To SpawnThe yellowtails have not been very cooperative the last few weeks, they bite for a little while and shut off or don't bite at all. Today was not their day as we caught thirty in a couple hours and left them biting. The Vermillon snapper bit a little but that was better than it has been and we caught a few kingfish. We had a good time with Jorge and his family, they learned fast and caught on quick.
3/7/2019 0 Comments One For OneConner told me on the way out that he had never caught a billfish, well he can't say that any more! We had started catching a few muttons and then up came the sail, Carrol (Conner's dad) was able to record most of the fight on his iphone to show everyone later and hopefully I will be able to get it up on my website at some point. It was a great show.
After the sail we caught some kingfish and yellowtail snapper for dinner to round out our short day and headed for the marina. 3/2/2019 0 Comments Tuna NachosProbably the biggest tuna we have caught this year and caught by our new friends from France on a morning half day. His sister caught a big king, we caught a few other kingfish and saw a couple sailfish that didn't eat.
