2/20/2024 0 Comments February 20th, 2024It was another perfect combination of great weather, great fishing, and great people. The Wiltenburg family definitely showed up to catch fish. We anchored the Kay K IV on the edge of the reef in about 90 feet of water to start the day off with some snapper fishing. First mate Mitch wasted no time getting the kite up to add some kite fishing in the mix. So while we were busy with the snappers on one side of the boat, we were catching King mackerel, and Bonitas on the other side of the boat. After catching plenty of table fair, we decided to spend the remainder of the time in a little deeper water with both kites up. Mitch put out a great looking spread of Goggleyes and it wasn't long before we came tight on a beautiful sailfish. It took about 30 minutes to catch and safely release that magnificent fish. I have to say, what an epic half day. Can't thank this family enough for booking and adding to the many great memories created on the Kay K IV.

2/3/2024 0 Comments WE TRY AND THEN TRY AGAIN...This morning we departed like we do many days , with a plan that somewhat resembles what has been working lately. Starting with a stop for bait. Unfortunately, today the water current was going directly into the wind and we were unsuccessful. My mate and I spend quite a bit of time after hours to try and keep some bait in pens just for these occasions, So there was a back up plan. After dedicating time to catch sailfish this morning and changing locations a couple times , we decided to go ahead and cover dinner with Yellowtail snapper. While snapper fishing we finally raised a sailfish and hooked it up then jumped it off. Even though we weren't successful with the catch, my mate never gave up, and that's what him so great. The crew on board still had plenty of nice snappers for dinner and great memories of the day. We'll see some of those guys again in April. Then we'll try it all over again and make some more great memories.
